You will incorporate what you have learned from the units like weather, dining, transportation, renting a space, sports and travel and so on to create a “talking slides”. As you complete this project, you will gain content knowledge of the subject and gain experience in:

Describe famous scenic and well-known sites in 北京、西安、上海.
Scenario: You have been living in Beijing for three years (你在北京已经住了三年了). It is the early spring. Your college roommate (室友) from USA is coming to China for a month’s visit this year. He/she plans to have some sightseeing in several big cities. Your friend wrote you an email, asking which cities you would recommend, where he/she should stay, when would be the best time to come, how the weather would look like during his/her visit, and what kind of clothes he/she should pack, and so on. You looked up the online resources, and based on your own living experience in China, you left him/her this voice mail. Instructions and Rubrics: (Total: 75 Points)

1) Identify yourself first before you make any posting (VoiceThread refers it as “Comments”). (2 Points) 2) You live in Beijing. Describe what kind of city Beijing is. And you suggest your friend to stay with you for most of the time. (3 Points) 3) Show the floor map of your apartment and talk about how roomy and convenient it is. (5 Points) 4) Suggest that while you go to work during the day time, your friend can get to know Beijing by taking advantage of a city map (地图) and the transportation system: taking subway, bus, or taxi, in addition to walk about or ride a bike. (5 Points) 5) You volunteer to be your friend’s tour guide(导游). You will take a week off (请一个星期的假). Take your friend to Xi’an by train and then you two will fly to Shanghai from Xi’an. (5 Points) 6) Describe what kind of cities Xi’an and Shanghai are, and what kind of 名胜古迹your friend should see, explain why. Among all five different types of comments, you will be assessed mainly on the speaking part, but you can add other combinations such as a video or text to supplement your speech.
Your speaking part should be mainly in Chinese. You are encouraged to look up the new words to fill in the gaps between what you have learned from the textbooks and what you want to express. (5 Points)
Though it is almost impossible to be flawless in both pronunciation and grammar, you have showed people your good effort in preparation. Your message is easy to understand with the proper visual aids, and your language has demonstrated some degree of sophistication through using proper cohesive words, conjunction words and new vocabulary, and complex sentence structures. (10 Points)
You will review your own team member’s VoiceThreads for peer commentary. Critiques can either be in oral or in writing by posting the comments on the same VoiceThread. (10 Points)
